Chinese: Teaching Principles and Objectives

Arouse Students’ Interest and Raise Their Awareness for Self-learning

Interest is a colourful cognitive tendency and the most determinant factor that motivates students to engage in their studies. As early as 2,000 years ago, the Chinese educator Confucius pointed out, "They who love it are better than those who know it, and they who delight in it are better than those who love it". Modern cognitive psychologist Jean Piaget also believed that, "Play is the answer to how anything new comes about". Therefore, we believe that students must learn Chinese based on their interests as the learning results wouldn't be up to standard if they were forced to learn passively. Only when students are interested in learning will they have the desire to learn and the willingness to devote time & effort to their studies. Hence, our school seizes the opportunity for language education by using a wide variety of lively classs to arouse students' interest in learning and raise their awareness of self-learning.
